Golf Tips for Winter

Learning to play golf is sometimes a rather difficult process. However if you live somewhere where it gets rather cold you could be looking at some huge problems in terms of practicing golf when the weather turns icy cold. However, if you work on building a game plan before the weather gets icy cold you could still be able to practice your golf skills no matter what time of year it is. This would allow you to continuously work on improving your golf game year around, rather than only when the weather is warm outside. Your other alternative would be either moving or vacationing in an area each winter that is not only warm, but has several great golf courses as well.

Of course, the idea of playing golf may be quite motivational, yet at times the course can be much too cold to play in the winter. This combined with the potential for icy dew on the grass, and frozen water hazards can make playing in the winter virtually impossible. If you have a strong desire to continue playing your best option will be looking for an indoor golf course where you can play, or even an indoor driving range so you can continue to practice your swing during the cold months. If you do not have the luxury of a driving range if you reserve some space in your home free of any hazards you could continue practicing your swing, even without the ball.

While this may not seem like as much fun, you should still try to practice your swing no matter how cold the weather is. Otherwise, your first few games when it warms up is likely to be poorly played. A good exercise program during the winter is also looking into ensuring that you work out continuously. However, just as during the time when you can actually play golf, you need to ensure that you are building lean muscle. Never work to build bulky muscle even during the off months for golf. While waiting until the weather warms up to go golfing may seem like torture, it is a good idea to avoid playing when it is really cold outside.

In terms of your health playing during the cold weather is bad because you are putting your body through intense amounts of stress trying to keep warm, as well as still focusing on the game itself. This can often increase dramatically the risk of getting hurt and even increase the chances of a pulled muscle since muscles are not as warmed up during the colder months. Any injury regardless of the time of year is bad, but during times of year where the weather is especially cold you are going to be much more susceptible to injury.

Always make sure that you are spending some time inside rather than outside when it is cold. Playing a few short rounds of golf is not worth getting hurt. Always ensure that during the cold months, you either stop playing outside or you wait to play outside when you go visit a much warmer location. During the winter, a visit to a golf course that is located in the Deep South can be a lot of fun since they are still warm enough to stay open. Just keep in mind your overall safety when you are trying to play, you do not want to be injured over a sport.

Tips For Purchasing Golf Bags

Technology is constantly being taken to higher levels in the game of golf. New ideas and concepts are being brought to the attention of players of all levels, ages, conditions and styles. Golf bags are certainly no exception. There are many different styles out there for you to choose from depending on how you prefer to get around the course. Lite-weight with a stand might be for you if you like to walk the course, maybe a cart bag or a more traditional bag suits your golfing needs. If you are looking for something that is of the highest level of quality and durability, a good decision might be to take a closer look at Ogio golf bags or Ping golf bags. These are among the best makers of top quality golf bags, along with Izzo, Bag Boy, Callaway Golf and Datrek.

If convenience, style and durability are what you are looking for, review some of the top quality makers of golf bags. There is without a doubt one or more different styles perfect for you. Take a closer look at the extensive line of Ogio golf bags and Ping golf bags that are available to you. Ogio’s popular models include Voltage, Vaporlite, T-Zone. Also check out Pings Retro, Trailblazer and their Hoofer stand bags. Whether you need a carry, cart, traditional or even a travel bag, is up to you. It all depends on your style of game. Some golfers have two golf bags, one for when they feel like walking, and another for those days when they would prefer to use a pull cart. Cart bags are usually a little bulkier than the average carry bag.

Golf bags are obviously an essential piece of equipment for all golfers. There are many factors to consider when choosing the right one for you such as, color, size, weight, material and style. There are many choices for you to choose from, and a very large selection especially made for the growing number of women golfers. Although we recommend Ping golf bags and Ogio golf bags, there are tons of others we could recommend that are just as reputable, durable and surprisingly affordable.

Hydration Tips for the Golf Course

Since golf is a warm weather sport – and often a hot weather sport – ensuring that you are properly hydrated is essential. If you don’t drink enough water, your body is not going to perform as well as it should and your golf game is sure to suffer.

Rather than loading up at infrequent golf course drink stations, you are better off drinking smaller amounts regularly. In order to do this, you should carry a water bottle or two with you. Continue to sip away at them, and refill them as needed when you do reach water stations. A good rule of thumb is to drink eight ounces of fluid before you even tee off, then continue to drink four to eight ounces every 15 minutes of play.

If you are playing a long round and will miss a meal, you may want to consider bringing a meal replacement drink. This is generally a dry powder mixed with water that can be used in the absence of a meal or to replace fluids. These will keep you hydrated, and help keep your blood sugar level in check.

Many recreational golfers have a beer or two on the course. Keep in mind that alcohol dehydrates you; it does not count as drinking fluids to keep you hydrated. If you do choose to drink any alcohol while playing, be sure that you limit your consumption and include non-alcoholic beverages as well.

Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink, because at this point your body is already dehydrated. Drink before heading out and continue to drink through your entire round. Dehydration creates fatigue, makes you uncomfortable and can cause you to lose your mental focus – an important element in the game of golf.

Diet and nutrition are just as important as fitness when it comes to creating a body that is optimized for a great game of golf. Be sure you keep hydration in mind each time you play.

Conditioning For Golf Produces A Powerful Golf Swing

Conditioning for golf sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? But let me ask you this. Do you feel stress in your body during or after a golf swing? I’m referring to physical stress. The muscles tightening; the lower back stiffening; the joints aching; or just plain physical fatigue. The reason I ask is to make you aware that conditioning for golf will help eliminate all the above.

I’ve written many articles pertaining to the traumatic effect the golf swing can have on the body. Swinging a 3 foot plus lever (club) at up to 100 mph in a very dynamic and sometimes uncomfortable position (golf posture) will abuse your body quickly if you have not prepared your muscles from both a strength and flexibility standpoint.

Physical breakdown of the body is a common occurrence for golfers. Many golfers don’t realize the intense pressure the golf swing causes, and yet they’ll deal with aches and pains through their entire golfing career.

It doesn’t have to be that way!

Golf is an athletic movement and you should physical prepare your body to perform, like any other athlete would for his or her sport.

Doesn’t that make sense?

I see golfers every day on the range and the golf course who are physically broken. They have locked up shoulders, inhibiting their ability to rotate fully; they have no core strength (most golfers are sporting too many pounds in the middle) to produce power and distance; poor hamstring flexibility, making it impossible to maintain golf poster; the upper back muscles are weak and tight causing the rounded upper back, eliminating any chance of proper spine angle.

I could go on and on, but I think you’re getting the picture.

I don’t know if golfers are in denial of the importance of conditioning for golf, or just don’t want to put any effort into that aspect of the game. But either way, it is inevitable that a weak and restricted body will have no chance at maximizing potential. It’s a physical impossibility.

Conditioning for golf should be taken seriously!

When you do a program specific to golf, it can be fun. Boredom is one of the biggest causes of consistency and results. But if you knew you were doing something not only for your personal health, but to benefit your golf game, wouldn’t that motivate you to stick with it?

We’re not talking about going to a gym for 2 hours with all the muscle heads. We’re talking about 20-30 minutes a day in your home. Simple and fun exercises with tubing, handweights and a stability ball. Your complete golf fitness gym for under $60. No gym memberships. Just a fun routine in the privacy of your home.

Evaluate where your golf swing and game are currently and ask yourself this question. “Would I play better if I could move my body more fluidly and powerfully?” The answer is a resounding YES! You’ve got to realize this sooner or later. Prepare your body to perform and the sky is the limit.

Get started right now on your conditioning for golf!

Stance And Golf Swing

The stance is important to golfers that are trying to make the best golf swing. It is important to get in position and make sure that you use proper posture when playing golf.

The back should be straight at all times to protect your back against injuries. The arms and hands must hang down below your shoulders. Most players will assess their location of the arms and hands before they set up their ball. The left arm should hang loosely.

The posture or stance is not negotiable. To make a good golf swing, the posture must be correctly in position. All professional players make sure they have the proper stance down in order to progress.

It has two aspects, which on the motion side, creates the best way to get a good golf swing, and it also protects the players’ back when he has the proper structure.

While standing still, a professional will focus on his posture and grip. All other aspects of the game require more concentration and time. This is because the player works on golf swings and other aspects during his swing. Once the player checks his posture and grip, he then moves on to make a good golf swing.

Most professional golfers use several methods to produce the best golf swing. Often the players will focus on the most important aspects of playing golf, including posture. The player will also pivot or stand in position with the back straight and the legs slightly bent.

Golf Swing Exercises Can Add Power Quickly

Golf swing exercises are the missing link to adding tremendous power to your golf swing quickly. To be able to execute an effective golf swing…golf swing exercises will enhance your bodies abilitiy to move throughout the required ranges of motion…enabling you to hit drives you know you are capable of.

The other reason why golf swing exercises are so important is in the fact that a golf swing by its’ very nature is a very unnatural and awkward movement of the body and muscles. It therefore stands to reason that the body will usually resist the golf swing action and this is why it appears to be so difficult to master.

However when you implement golf swing exercises to strengthen and condition the relevant muscles, the golf swing becomes less awkward to the body.

Let us now take a closer look at the movements involved in a golf swing so that we come up with the most effective golf swing exercises that will impact most dramatically on the quality of your game.

The golf swing is actually a turn back (rotate) and turn through (rotate). Most of the movement is pure rotational in nature. This means doing golf swing exercises like a seated twist holding a dumbbell straight out in front of you is a very effective exercise in strengthening and conditioning the muscles used in the golf swing.

Be careful not to use very heavy weights in this golf swing exercise. 3-5 pound dumb bells are ideal. Remember that a golf club is not heavy; in fact it weights less than a pound.

Repeating golf swing exercises like this as many times as you can within a 30-minute session without straining yourself. Do remember to warm up before you begin the session and also to warm down when you are through.

Warming up ensures that you do not start with your muscles cold. Stretches involving the muscles that you are going to use can also be extremely useful before you go into these golf swing exercises.

Need Help Playing Golf? Try These Tips

Golf is a sport that is commonly played by many people worldwide. Golf is different than most sports because the rules require winners of the game to have the lowest score among their competitors. Golf can be played by anyone, as long has they have a ball and a set of clubs to hit it with. If you want to play golf, then the advice in this article will help you.

Develop a consistent method for stroking accurate iron shots by always starting with your club head first during the address. By focusing on the proper placement of the iron in relationship to the ball and your target, you can then properly align your feet and shoulders for a straight shot.

Green fees can sometime be ridiculous. Worse off, many old stodgy, expensive courses are no better than the cheaper courses. Look on golfing sites and check the star ratings on Google before you venture out to any golf course. Most courses that are over 3.5 stars will be thoroughly enjoyable.

While it may be difficult to memorize all the specific rules of golf, take the time to learn the basic rules regarding penalty strokes. By understanding how to take the proper penalty for lost balls, shots out-of-bounds, strokes in the water, and other common problems, you will earn the trust of your playing partners that you are not out to cheat while also keeping the round moving.

To help you chip the ball better and more consistent you should swing with your body and not your hands. When chipping you need to make more of a body rotation with your bigger muscles. Using your hands can lead to all sorts of inconsistencies such as thin, fat or even shanked shots.

If you are a new golfer, or one that has not golfed in awhile, it is a good idea to take lessons with a golf pro. The most basic thing about golf is the swing. Early help from a professional can prevent bad habits and help you learn how to hit the ball.

In most cases, the green fees are cheap, but the golf cart isn’t. You can circumvent this fee by carrying your own clubs. You can get a personal caddy on wheels typically for less than $100 and it usually pays for itself in under one season. Plus, it gives you the extra added bonus of getting plenty of walking in and exercise while you are golfing.

One of the first things to get down while learning how to golf is the grip. By far and large the way you grip your golf club is the single most important way to alter your golf game. A good grip ensures stability and consistency with your swing, which will help you improve your game.

As stated before, golf is commonly played by many people around the world. The rules of golf require winners to have the lowest score among players, making golf a different game than other sports. Provided that you have a ball and clubs, you can play golf. If you remember the advice from this article, then you should be able to play golf.

Impress Your Golf Buddies With These Great Golf Tips!

Don’t let your golf game become the victim of bad habits simply because you don’t have the right information to get to the next level. There is always some piece of advice that can make you a better player. Take a look at the simple tips below, and be inspired to play a better game of golf.

In order to improve your overall score, focus on building in a cushion of extra shots during the easier holes. This will reduce your stress level. Use those later, more difficult holes as a chance to improve, instead of needing to meet a certain goal the first time you play them.

Before you start your next round, don’t spend too much time on the range. Many new golfers will hit a large bucket before they play, thinking that it will help them for the next five hours of playing. The reality is that taking too many swings on the range will eventually tire you out, leaving your arms fatigued on the back nine.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to make sure that you always take practice swings before hitting the ball. This is important because each hit counts and you want to make sure that your body and mind are ready for the next stroke. Step away from the ball in order to not make accidental contact with it.

It is absolutely vital that each golfer understands the basic water hazard rules before heading out onto the course. Knowing how you play after you hit into a water hazard marked by yellow stakes (regular water hazard) or red stakes (lateral water hazard) can make a huge difference in your final score.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to always wear proper golf shoes when swinging your club. This is crucial because it helps you to hold your form during your swing. It is important also so that you maintain your footing while walking on a possibly slippery course.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to tell yourself that each shot is the most important shot you will ever take.

Golf Tips – Getting Started

History has it that the game of “golf” was born in 15th century Scotland. Then around 1744, the first rules of play were codified and established in Edinburgh by The Company of Gentlemen Golfers. Golf has become one of the most popular sports in the world; played in countries as far reaching as Mexico and Ireland, South Africa and China. And, of course, Scotland. And the world has not been the same since. It’s come as no surprise that there are universities offering degrees in Golf.

The best way a beginner can begin is by learning what NOT to do. So, for the novice getting started, the game entails entering a world with a rich and varied history, a major investment of time and money, a demanding physical and mental learning curve and last but not least – days with huge amounts of “FUN”!

Now, don’t go running out and spending a small fortune on things you don’t know anything about. Such as course fees, golf lessons, and golf attire. Some courses are not worth the fee nor are the costs for equipment claiming to be of high quality. The clothes and lessons can also wait for a time.

The newness and the joy of finding a sport that you can play alone, with friends and spouses, or even with the whole family is part of the excitement. Learning to play golf well can be an emotionally exhausting experience not to mention expensive. Take some time and do a bit of research. You’ll not want to enter into this without being armed with what you need to know.

Learn to take baby steps first and remember to have fun and not take yourself and everything else too serious. The pros will generally advise against spending too many weeks on the driving range at first, claiming you may develop some bad habits that are difficult to break once you start playing on the course. However, spending a bit of time on the driving range can be beneficial, helping to get the muscles moving, discovering if you’ve got any inclination or interest in the game and an idea of what and where to use what clubs.

Find a cheap course and wear comfortable, baggy clothing that doesn’t restrict your arms and shoulders. Save that $1,000 you’d spend on pants, shoes, and shirts for later. To start use a simple three club set you can borrow from a friend or use a clubhouse rental. A Nine iron, a wedge, and a Number 5 wood is plenty. Actually the wedge won’t get much use on a driving range, but you can add a putter and move to the putting practice area later. Some have miniature versions of sand traps to practice escaping.

Take it easy, watch those who hit well and imitate their grip, stance, and posture. Tee up, keep your eye on the ball as you swing, and give it a firm whack. If you miss a few, so be it. Have Fun. You’re teaching your body what the swing feels like, what angle and impact produces what kind of flight..

On the putting green, start very close to the hole — no more than a couple of feet. When you can make 25 putts in a row more or less consistently, move back to six feet, 10 feet, 20 feet — no farther. ‘More or less’ consistently — even the pros sometimes miss a two-footer!

Whether driving or putting, stand so that a casual push wouldn’t knock you over. Golf is about balance, concentration, and some simple physics. Now, go have a cool drink in the clubhouse and enjoy the day.

Improve Your Golf Swing With Keeping Your Golf Club On The Correct Swing Plane

We as golfers have heard the term swing plane many times during our golfing careers. But do we really know the definition of it and the bearing upon our golf swing?

Recently, I had a conversation with Dean Reinmuth (top 30 teaching pro ranked by Golf Digest) and I think he described swing plane the best. Dean suggests to think of the swing plane as an imaginary circle. The imaginary circle that represents the swing plane is set at an angle. It is the path on which it is necessary for the club to travel in order to execute the swing correctly.

Beginning at address, the clubhead and shaft should be positioned at the “bottom” of the swing plane. During takeaway into the backswing and at the transition point of the swing, the clubhead and shaft are to remain on the swing plane. These three phases of the swing represent the club traveling “up” the swing plane to “top” of it. Keep in mind the visual of the circle and the shaft of the club dissecting the shoulder during these phases of the swing.

Once the transition is complete, the downswing begins and the clubhead is moving down the swing plane. The path on which the club is traveling down should be the same as on the backswing.

Continuing on with the swing plane, the club is to travel to again the “bottom” of the swing plane for impact with the golf ball. Once impact has occurred with the golf ball the follow-through of the swing occurs, and it is still necessary for the club to travel upon the correct swing plane. This assures that you are releasing the golf club correctly.

The swing plane on the follow through is essentially a “mirror image” of it on the backswing. The golf club, again, must travel up an imaginary circle that dissects your front shoulder up into the finish position.

What does the swing plane represent?

The swing plane represents the path on which your golf club should travel upon during the swing.

Why is it so important for the golf club to travel upon the swing plane?

The golf club must travel upon the correct swing path in order to impact the golf ball correctly. Impacting the golf ball correctly provides the greatest possibility of delivering powerful, accurate, and consistent shots on the course of play.

Oftentimes the golf club does not travel upon the correct swing plane. What happens in such instances?

The path of the club becomes and “outside to in” move resulting in a slice, or an “inside to out” swing plane resulting in a hook. Overall, the club’s not traveling on the correct swing plane results in poor shots.

Now that we know what a proper swing plane is within the golf swing and we can visually create a picture of it, how do we develop the proper swing plane?

This is the hard part, and there are no secrets about it. Referring back to my conversation with Dean Reinmuth, he suggests that it is a process of creating “feel” for the proper swing plane. Creating “feel” is a process of knowing where the clubhead is on the swing plane. This allows you to know where your golf club is in regards to the proper swing plane required of the golf swing.

How do you go about creating “feel” within your golf swing?

It is a process of understanding the mechanics of swing and developing the proper swing mechanics within your golf swing.

This allows you to know what the golf club should be doing, where it should be during each phase of the swing, and when it is not where it should be when you are swinging the golf club.

Overall, it becomes a process of recognition. Recognition of what is the right and the wrong movements/positions within the golf swing. Once “feel” is developed within your swing, I would definitely say you are close to mastering the golf swing.

This does require time and effort on your part. But if you are willing to put in the time and effort, rewards on the course will be well documented.
